You don't need expensive cameras or a fancy set up to take photos for your ID cards. Most digital cameras and smartphones do the job perfectly.

This guide will help you take the best photographs for your ID cards.

A photo or selfie taken with a phone works perfectly well. This can save you time and frustration when team members aren't in the office to get their photo taken.

Check the Lighting

Bright, natural lighting works best. Try to avoid harsh or uneven lighting to to avoid dark shadows or over-exposed areas in your photos.

Steady Hands

Try to hold your camera still until the photo has been taken to get a sharp shot. Sometimes it can take a second or two for a photo to process, especially when using a phone camera. We always recommend checking the photo after taking it - just in case you need to retake it before the staff member leaves!

Consider the Background

A light, plain background often works best to make the staff or team member stand out. You can take photos in front of a wall, door or even a pop-up screen or banner.

Lighting is more important, so don't worry if your photos end up having a busy background.

Check Composition

When taking staff photos, ask them to face the camera directly. Don't worry about zooming in too much, because we will crop your photos down to the head and shoulders for you. We can even adjust the brightness and contrast of your photos, or convert them to black and white for a stylish finish - completely free of charge.

Summing up

Taking your staff ID photos is fairly easy overall. If you're happy with how they look on-screen, feel free to send them to us and we'll get printing.
